Faux Fur: I'm Not Over You Yet

Well, it is official. I am having a midsummer crisis. I can't stop thinking about fall and all of the wonderful things that come along with the cooler temperatures, not sweating while drinking my coffee, not worrying about leaving the house and my hair looking like Albert Einstein's and the return of faux fur to my wardrobe. Sometime last fall my obsession with fur began. At first it was a scarf, then it was a vest and then a coat. Instead of this love of all things fur fading it seems to have intensified over the summer months. Now, as fall is approaching my mind goes back to Fall 2010 Fashion Week where Pink Tartan showed these amazing fur skirts. It was love at first sight, for weeks all I talked about were these amazing fur skirts and how I had to have one. Well, after revisiting the runway photos, I still feel the same way and so the hunt for the perfect fur skirt begins... stay tuned!

Fall Where Art Thou?

For as long as I can remember towards the end of July I always start yearning for fall. When I was younger it was so I could open all my new fancy school supplies my parents had gotten me on vacation in the states, but now school is over and things haven't really changed. Instead of school supplies I think of cool fall days, the ones where it is too warm for jackets but too cool to go without an extra layer. Boot and Sweater season I like to call it and it is calling my name right now. Every morning this week I have wanted to put on my coziest sweaters and ankle booties, but alas with temperatures of almost 40 degrees, that just isn't happening. So until the weather starts to cool down, here are a few things I'm dreaming about for fall!

1. Grab and Go Cardigan- $12.50 Forever 21
2. Frye Boots- $268
3. 12th St by Cynthia Vincent Clog Booties- $325 Shopbop.com
4. Tie Front Cardigan- $720 Rick Owens
5. Light Cashmere Ponch- $1120 Tomas Maier
6. Slouchy Cocoon Jumper- $80 Top Shop
7. Lace Up Booties- $148 Jeffery Campbell

*Stay Tuned... Number five may become my next DIY project... $1120 for a poncho is a little out of my price range!

I'm Just Trying To Get Closer To The Moon

Normally after work on a Monday there is nothing I want to do more than go home and relax. However, not this Monday. After successfully completing my DIY Project a couple of friends and I made were off to dinner at Lee's in Toronto. So I put on my favourite new shoes (bought in NYC) and was off with Anna and Nick for a night of delicious foods and a little photo shoot.

DIY: Torn and Tattered

Yesterday inspiration struck and I felt the need to try my best to make my own ripped sweater. Well, it didn't go exactly as planned, but the results are still wearable, which is all you can ask for when destroying a perfectly good piece of clothing.

I started out this project by trying to shave runs into the material... note to self: that does not work on knit sweaters. Perhaps I should have done some DIY research before jumping into this project!

Just checking out my handy work:

You might be able to tell by the outfit I put together, but I am about done with summer and couldn't be more excited for fall to come. Cozy sweaters, boots... I guess I really am a typical Canadian, I'm never happy with the weather we've got!

Stripes in the City

Since my return from NYC life/work have been pretty hectic so i haven't had a ton of time to update my blog. But here I am! Back in full force! These are the last set of shots from NYC... the New York subway system has to be the hottest place on earth, but Petra and I sucked it up and even managed to take a few outfit shots. You may recognize the tube top from when I wore it as skirt... to this day I am not exactly sure what it's actual purpose is, I bought it as a top but decided it looked better as a skirt. You have to love a truly multipurpose garment.

DIY Inspiration

There are times when I am browsing online or in a store and come across a fabulous piece but I can't bring myself to spend a small fortune on something I could probably make myself. This happened last summer with the ripped jean trend, and I asked myself, why I am buying something that comes damaged? The feeling that follows is similar to an Oprah "ah ha" moment, it's the moment you decide that you actually will attempt to make it yourself. I successfully ripped a pair of jeans last year and this summer I am hoping to successfully rip a sweater! I found this sweater from top shop for inspiration, and I am hoping my attempt at ripping my sweater will turn out looking as good as this!

I've Got The Magic In Me... Times Square

I'm not sure what it is about Times Square and the surrounding area, but when I walk through the tall buildings and bright billboards I get a giddy feeling inside. Ever since my first visit to NYC it has been my favourite place in the city. Normally throngs of tourists drive me crazy, but there is something different about Times Square, I embrace the tourists, the lights and the chaos and love every second of walking through it. This time around I happened to be in the square when Spain won the World Cup, so I am not sure chaos is even the right word to describe what was happening. It was amazing. (read on below the jump)

Weeks prior to my trip to New York I already knew what I was going to wear when I went to Times Square. Normally I don't plan outfits that far in advance, but this dress just seemed to be the perfect fit for my surroundings. A perfect dress for a perfect place?

Accessories Galore

Well, it was back to the real world today. After you go on a fabulous getaway it is always a little difficult to get back into the swing of things. Surprisingly I woke fairly easily to my alarm at 3:45 this morning and managed to get myself ready and into my car as if I never left. But, then it happened... I was at the drive-thru picking up my morning coffee when the lady at the window said, "where have you been? I haven't seen you in days" (It is true, I am a regular and they do know my name... I am not ashamed) The memories all came flooding back and suddenly my mind was in Soho at an amazing accessories store called So Good. This store was like heaven on earth for a lover of costume jewelery. I felt like a kid begging my mom to go down the Barbie isle at the toy store. It was probably the hot pink walls and zebra print floors, or maybe it was just the sparkling sea of jewelery itself that made me want to stay forever. Obviously I had to leave, but not before snapping a few pictures and buying a few amazing pieces!

New York City Heat

After six days in New York City I have arrived back in Toronto. My original intention was to post every day while I was there, but due to some technical difficulties that didn't happen, so now I have some catching up to do. I got to NYC the day after an extreme heatwave, and while everyone told me it had cooled down substantially it still felt like a serious heatwave to me. Despite the hot and humid weather I had the most amazing time.

I have lots of photos and outfits to go through still, but here are a couple of shots to start things off. These were taken on 89th Street on the Upper East Side. It was so hot out that in hindsight layering this outfit wasn't the best idea, but with a threat of rain the entire day I didn't want to risk being cold. But hey, you live and you learn- wearing layers in 95 degree weather isn't the best idea especially when using the New York subway system.

Come back tomorrow and I will have more NYC posts!

NEW YORK NEW YORK!

I have arrived! After much anticipation, I am in New York! Unfortunately I am having some technical difficulties and am unable to post my own pictures... but I swear I took one identical to this today, if not better!

More pictures to come and of course more fashionable adventures!

My NYC Packing List

The countdown to my trip to New York is on! I am 3 days away from the Big Apple and have barely thought about what to bring. The worst part of going on any trip is the preparation. Whether it is a weekend or a month away, figuring out what to pack into a tiny suitcase is always incredibly difficult. I am the kind of person who wants to take everything I own along with me. After all, you never know what you are going to feel like wearing once you get to your destination. My way of thinking isn't practical and it always leads to over-packing. Tonight I even started to consider taking a separate suitcase just for shoes (someone please tell me this is an unreasonable idea). Currently I have 4 items out of my closet and ready to go into a suitcase...

It's Hot Out There

Well, summer is here and mother nature is putting us through a heat wave to prove it! I always find it hard to get dressed in the morning when I know it is going to be super hot outside. This morning was no different, I just couldn't figure out what to wear knowing the expected high was going to be over 30 degrees. But then, I spotted this dress out of the corner of my eye. The bright colours and bold floral print were the perfect choice for a hot, sticky summer day!

Radiant Reds: Canada Day

After finding some red inspiration, I took a trip to find something for our big Red Party, but it proved to be harder than I had originally anticipated. Have you ever noticed when you have something really specific in mind you can't find what you are looking for? I ended up getting a red dress on sale for $10 but wasn't really satisfied, so it was back to the drawing board... well actually my closet. Turns out I had WAY more red than I thought. After weighing my options I ended up wearing this Romper from H&M with a bunch of old red accessories. I wasn't the only one at the red party who went back in time to find red pieces. (Check out a couple of my friends below)
